This organization was founded in 1995 by Craig Kielburger was 12 years old. The primary mission of the organization is to free children from poverty and exploitation, and free them from the preconception of their inability to participate positively to global social change. With leadership programs, the Children brings to the thousands of young people the desire to become socially responsible global citizens, a key condition to become agent of change worldwide. Children, through its flagship program Adopt a Village, built over 500 schools around the world and has reached over one million young people in North America. Based on international human rights activist of the child, the Children is the largest network of children entraident through education. Today, more than one million young people are involved in its education programs and innovative development in over 45 countries. Since its foundation, the Children has been the recipient of numerous awards such as the World's Children's Prize for the Rights of the Child, commonly called the Nobel Prize for children and the rights provided by the World Association nongovernmental organizations. In addition, the organization has strengthened partnerships with leading school boards and with the program Oprah's Angel Network.

Gatineau-Ottawa my home town , a little city ... but a lot of stuff to do !

Wed, July 07, 2010 - 1:02AM 1 Comment

Two important tourist attractions located in Gatineau are the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Casino du Lac Leamy .In August, the Casino hosts an international fireworks competition which opposes four different countries with the winner being awarded a Prix Zeus prize for the best overall show (based on several criteria) and can return in the following year.At the beginning of September, on Labour Day weekend, Gatineau hosts an annual hot air balloon festival which fills the skies with colourful gas-fired passenger balloons .There are many parks. Some of them are well gardened playgrounds or resting spaces while others, like Lac Beauchamp Park , are relatively wild green areas which often merge with the woods and fields of the surrounding municipalities.Streams of all sizes run through these natural expanses. Most of the city is on level ground but the Northern and Eastern parts lie on the beginnings of the foothills of the massive Canadian Shield, or Laurentian mountains. These are the " Gatineau Hills ", and are visible in the background of the companion picture. One of Gatineau's urban parks, Jacques Cartier Park is used by the National Capital Commission during the popular festival, Winterlude .

What's so great about Gatineau , It's 5 minutes from Ottawa , the Capital of Canada . It's a wonderful curtural diversity . People here name the region of Gatineau-Ottawa : Outaouais . In the next paragraphs ill show you the 5 best things to visit in Outaouais from my opinion and ill talk about the Ottawa's paliament .

1# : Ottawa's Byward Market

 HISTORY

The ByWard Market is where Ottawa was born. Established by Lt-Col. John By in 1826, the ByWard Market is one of Canada’s oldest and largest public markets. The legendary builder of the Rideau Canal; Lt-Col. By himself laid out the street plan of the Market, designating George and York Streets to be extra wide to accommodate the horse-drawn carriages that brought foodstuffs to the market every day

TODAY

The ByWard Market is Ottawa’s number one tourist attraction, and is the premier destination for shopping, dining, arts, entertainment and profession services for residents and visitors. This area averages 50,000 visitors per weekend in the summer months. It is home to both a local farmer’s market and artisans with over 260 stands, as well as over 500 businesses. In 2009, the ByWard Market will play host to 6.3 million of the 7 million visitors expected to visit the Nation’s Capital in 2009.

At any time of the day if you go you will always find something new to do OR see something new ! A new band playing on the street , a magician doing tricks , people dancing , singing , drawing and much more !

  2 # : Rideau Canal Locks

The Rideau Canal was built between 1826 and 1832 by the Royal Engineers supervised by Lieutenant Colonel John By. Rideau Canal Waterway links Lake Ontario in Kingston with the Ottawa River and is 202 kilometers long (125 miles). The eight kilometer Canal Promenade runs from downtown Ottawa to

the Hartwell Locks at Carleton University. The Rideau Canal is a beautiful sight throughout the year. In the spring the parkways alongside the canal bloom with flowers; In the summer the cyclists and joggers enjoy it and is a perfect place for a stroll, and in the winter the canal turns into the "World's Longest Skating Rink". The Winterlude is one of the biggest winter festivals in North America held in February.

If you ever have a chance to go to the locks , if you go during day , you will see lots of people , boats , cyclists .You will also see the workers that open the gates to let the wather flow so that the boats can reach the Ottawa river . If you go at night you will see a completly other side of this place , a calme and peacefull area , you will maybe be able to go across the little bridges (the gates). To then be in right in front of Ottawa river !

3 # : Canadian Civilization Museum

The Canadian Museum of Civilization has roughly 25,000 square metres (270,000 sq. ft.) of display space, spread over four floors in its Museum Building (formerly the Glacier Wing). The galleries house a mix of permanent and changing exhibits. Also in this wing is an IMAX ® theatre.

Level 1 of the Museum Building present exhibitions relating principally to Canada's First Peoples: their histories, cultural identities, artistic  and IMAX theatre are also found on this level .

Level 2 of the Museum Building are three galleries devoted to changing exhibitions. Some of these exhibitions are designed by the CMC; others are produced by Canadian as well as international institutions. The Canadian Postal Museum, Canadian Children's Museum

Level 3 of the Museum Building, the Canada Hall recreates sights and sounds from the country's past, beginning with the arrival of Norse explorers. Reconstructed buildings and other historical settings are among the exhibits evoking a sense of different periods and different regions of the country.

Level 4, of the Museum Building, in the Canadian Personalities Hall, meet some of the men and women who built Canada, led it in peace and war, created its institutions, fought for a cause and inspired us all.

Outside the Museum building itself, there are various outdoor exhibits that are accessible when weather permits.

 5 # : Gatineau Park , Pink lake

Pink Lake is a meromictic lake located in Gatineau Park , Quebec

The lake was once a saltwater lake. A species of fish common to saltwater still lives in it. Oxygen is totally absent below 13 metres. One of Earth’s earliest life forms lives here. Cliffs all around the lake shelters it from winds that trigger mixing of water. The deepest water has not been in contact with the air for the past 10,000 years. Large amounts of algae are present in the lake in the summer, making it green. No, it's not pink at any time of the year. Pink Lake is named after a family of Irish settlers who, in 1826 cleared a farm in the area.

You can do a complete tour around the lake by walk and every where is a panoramic view

Ottawa's parliament

Visiting the buildings and grounds of Parliament Hill is rewarding. As a site of architectural beauty, historical significance and federal decision-making, the Hill belongs not only to those who work here, but to all Canadians.

Parliament Hill attracts approximately 3 million visitors each year.

If you ever have a chance to come and visit the parliament during summer in day time , you will maybe get to see historic personnages that act like if they were in the 18 centuries , they are desquised and if you see them they will maybe show you around while telling you stories about the parliament

If your planning to stay late at the parliament in the month of july august and september . I suggest you yo stay and watch the show Sound and Light Canada: The Spirit of a Country is a 30-minute multi-media production with original music, giant images and spectacular lighting effects which transports the audience from coast to coast through a unique experience of the story of our nation. The majestic landmark setting of Parliament Hill serves as a backdrop for the show as the Parliament Buildings become bathed in lights and images.
